Wake up & think positive
" We are all more than the sum of our parts, especially our memories for there are more to come but without a doubt they are a great sum of our parts." NosaJ
Today is memorial day. Have you ever stopped to ask yourself what memorial day is? It is about remembering the fallen. It is about honor and sacrifice and about those who lost their lives for others to maintain their way of life, their liberties and freedom. It is about others who are also a sum of all our parts and our story on a much greater scale.
How easily we say ` Happy Memorial day' without even knowing its true meaning or what it is all about. Happy Mother's day or happy Father's day flow from the tongue just as easily but they are what they are and there can be no confusion with the association. ` Happy holidays' also flows easily and naturally when the time comes but even that has also lost some of its true meaning over time as has memorial day.
There are two lessons to learn here. The first is that memories are very important. The second is that memories have association and deserve the right association or the memory is but an illusion and or a misdirection. The misdirection to memorial day is that it has but become a holiday or a very long weekend for many and also an opportunity for some to make a profit from the long weekend. What will it become with the next generation or the generation after that, if it keeps on adopting more of the holiday model and less of the true memorial model?
Memorial day has its specific meaning and in other countries it may go by a different name and occur on a different day but the essence of the day is to remember and to honor. Unfortunately memories have a way
of fading, of becoming vague and meaning along the way gets watered down. Dates gets changed as a matter of convenience and meaning also changes.
Memorial day is about the soldiers and the Veterans in our lives and those who are no longer with us. Let us not forget that. Let us not forget those who deserve to be remembered and now I am not just talking about soldiers and veterans. I am talking about everyone who has made some sacrifice to make a difference in your life.
Memorial day is not only about remembering but it also implicitly about being thankful. It is being thankful to those who have fought for you, those who have been on your own battle field with you, those who have been on a distant battle field, those who have stood in the line of fire for you and those who still stand by you.
Remember them all. Remember what memorial day is really about. Don't say happy memorial day just for the sake of saying it. Make your own memorial day but let the memories be true and be thankful for the positive people who have made some difference in your life time.
` Do you ever feel like you are drowning sometimes and waiting for the sharks? That is life for you. You can wait for an ocean liner to come and save you or you can swim to safety like your life does depend on it." Jason U
The good news is that you are not alone in whatever challenges that you are facing today. Life sometimes throws us all the same goodness and same crap as part of our great adventure, but to each their own manner to catching the goodness and throwing away the crap. The good news is that most challenges are temporary or fleeting and have a resolution to them. I use the phrase most challenges, because some can be annoyingly repetitive and take longer to resolve. The good news remains though, that you do have the capacity to resolve your challenges. The bad news is that even though you are in the same boat as billions of other people, you are on your own most of the time. You have to sometimes paddle your own way around and out of your series of life obstacles, challenges and issues.
There are those who would love to help you but do not have the resources or power to help you and there are those who can help you but will not and may actually want you to remain between a rock and a hard place as you try to sail or paddle through life. There are those willing to drown with you or for you, even though they do not have to and there are those who will watch you drown. There are those that you will do almost anything for yourself and there are those who you can do nothing for, are simply of no concern to or you cannot because they do not want to be helped.
There are ties that bind us to others and these ties have their own names, such as commitment, obligation, love, family, friendship and other terms but at the centre of them all has to be the free will or willingness to help. If it were these ties alone that bind us and compel us all to help others, then there would be no more cries for help and every child, every friend and family member would be helped or be of help to you. How lovely indeed that would be for so much help to exist but still there is some help in the world that we live in. You just have to find it and the primary source will always be looking at you in the mirror as you prepare for the day. You also have to give some of your own free will and maybe that help will also come back and find you someday.
You already know that there is no one better equipped in the world than you to help yourself. You know that because there is no one more acquainted with your situation than you are. You know how you got to where you are now. You know where you should be by now and you also know what is holding you back or the obstacles that you have to overcome. You know what you have to do in order to help yourself and you have to apply your free will and energy towards making it happen. You also have to remember that God helps those who help themselves.
You also have to help others from time to time or time and time again. This particular kind of help in any form or fashion may be a distraction from helping yourself but it is also a way of helping yourself. It is a distraction, because any help that you give to anyone else for any reason, takes away some time from you and could also cost you money. It is also a way of helping yourself because it builds its own motivation, it teaches selflessness and sacrifice. It builds character and the gratitude of others employs the goodwill of the universe for you.
We all find ourselves in situations from time to time or time and time again that we need help. Sometimes when someone says I do not need help that itself is a cry for help. It would be a much better world to live in if everyone did help each other. Your world would be a much better place if you asked for help and received it or gave it willingly. It means that you care. It makes you a giver. It makes you feel better. It makes you a contributor.
Wake up and help yourself get out of the situation that you need to or want to get out of. Wake up and help someone else that you know needs help, not because it is your job or an obligation but because you want to of your own free will. Wake up and help the day be a better day for you and for others.
